Last week was a tough one.
Though the US is far away from Spain and Europe, the killing of George Floyd has resonated strongly here. As it should be.
Sometimes, we think that because having smartphones or electric cars we are advanced societies that have left things like racism, homophobia, or other forms of hatred far behind. But they are still here.
And it's our responsibility to take a stance, not just in social media, but in the numerous little occasions between drastic and terrible events like this one.
Because that's exactly what makes the difference.
Having said that, how's the maker doing?
Open Maker, a free Ghost Theme optimized for newsletters
This week, I launched my first Open Source project: Open Maker, a free Ghost theme optimized for newsletters to help publishers build their subscriber list since the first post.
Why did I decide to do it?
After developing the custom Ghost theme for makersway.io, I came across several posts in the Ghost official forums talking about the lack of themes with layouts optimized for subscriptions.
I did a quick search and It was true.
Plus, I had just released Maker's Way with a custom theme with that same goal in mind.
So, since this is a problem shared by other people in the community, why not Open Source it?
Also, It is a nice test to measure demand for this kind of product in the Ghost community. There is a huge market for premium themes compatible with Wordpress, so we'll see!
At this moment, the Ghost team likes it and has asked me if I wanted to highlight it in their marketplace:
Also and without promoting it, there are already people downloading it from the repo.
You can check it out here.
Feel free to download it and make it yours or share it with anybody that wants to build their subscriber list!
And if you have any doubt, just reply to this email or contact me on twitter.
Besides the docs and copies of Open Maker, I'm giving the final touches to the next post of the blog.
It's bigger than the last one. A size worth its relevance. Around 2.000 words that could have saved us (or my angel investor, back in the day), around 31.000 € and 6 months of work.
Also, I thought it could be useful to create a canvas for you. The ones I've seen are confusing and/or fill with unnecessary fields, in my humble opinion.
Here is a rough draft of it:
I'm doing it on a google sheets template, for you to play with it.
I plan to publish it this week, so stay tuned!
